Permissions
Mimir Gate uses Android permissions only for phone-app behavior selected by the user.
Default Phone App
Mimir Gate works best when set as the default phone app. This allows Android to route incoming and outgoing call controls through Mimir Gate.
You can change the default phone app later in Android Settings > Default apps > Phone app.
Permissions Mimir Gate Uses
Contacts
Used to show saved contacts, contact names, and contact photos. Contacts also help Mimir Gate let saved people ring normally.
Mimir Gate does not upload contacts.
Phone
Used to place outgoing calls from the keypad, contacts, local recents, Trusted Speed Dial, and optional home-screen shortcuts after you choose a call action.
Answer Calls
Used when Android requires explicit permission for Mimir Gate to answer a call during deliberate Drop behavior.
Notifications
Used to show incoming call, missed call, and call-status notifications.
Call History
Optional. Used only when you choose to import Android call history into Mimir Gate's encrypted local Recents list. Mimir Gate explains the import first, asks you to authenticate with your Android device lock, and then Android asks for call history permission. Mimir Gate does not upload call history and does not continuously read the Android call log after import.
Full-Screen Intent
Used to show the incoming call screen on top of the lock screen or other apps. This is important for a phone app because users need to answer, decline, or Drop calls immediately.
Modify Audio Settings
Used to quiet deliberate Drop handling so blocked callers do not startle you.
Vibrate
Used for haptic feedback when tapping app controls, depending on your app and system settings.
Wake Lock
Used to keep the incoming call experience responsive while a call is arriving.
Device Authentication
Mimir Gate may ask you to authenticate with your Android device lock before sensitive local actions, such as importing Android call history, applying aggressive protection presets, or turning Privacy Mode off. This uses Android's built-in authentication flow and does not give Mimir Gate your PIN, password, fingerprint, or face data.
Home-Screen Shortcuts
Mimir Gate can ask Android to create optional home-screen shortcuts for Trusted Speed Dial, Contacts, or Recents. These shortcuts can either open Mimir Gate with a number pre-filled or place a call immediately. Android or your launcher may ask you to approve shortcut placement.
Permissions Mimir Gate Does Not Use
Mimir Gate does not request these permissions in the current version:
- Internet — No network permission is declared in the app manifest. Mimir Gate has no ability to send or receive data over the internet.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — Mimir Gate does not record, monitor, or process call audio. Android and your carrier handle the cellular audio channel at the system level, below the app layer. A phone app does not need microphone access to route, silence, or drop calls — those are call management actions, not audio capture.
- SMS — Mimir Gate is a phone call manager, not a messaging app. No SMS read or send access is used.
- External storage — All app data is stored in app-private storage, which does not require a storage permission.
- Billing — No in-app purchase or subscription SDK is present in the current version.
- Advertising ID — No advertising or analytics SDK is included. The advertising ID is never accessed.
