Getting Started
- Install Mimir Gate from Google Play.
- Open the app.
- Set Mimir Gate as your default phone app when Android asks.
- Allow only the permissions needed for the features you want to use.
- Test incoming and outgoing calls.
- Add spam numbers or wildcard rules from Settings or Recents.
Recommended First Settings
For most users, start with the Safer protection mode:
- Contacts: ring normally.
- Unknown callers: silence.
- International numbers: silence.
- Numbers in spam list: silence.
- Drop: use only for numbers you intentionally want to cut off quickly.
Aggressive mode silently reviews unknown, international, and spam-list callers for a short time, then drops them if you do not act. Insane mode drops those callers immediately. Mimir Gate explains what each mode changes and asks for Android device authentication before applying these stronger presets.
What Drop Means
Drop answers a call and hangs up quickly. It is intended for callers you deliberately want to cut off quickly and, where carrier timing allows, reduce unwanted voicemail.
Carrier behavior can vary. Drop is not guaranteed to work identically on every carrier or device.
If a caller still reaches voicemail, try adjusting the spam-list action and review timeout. Carrier voicemail systems may take over faster than the app can finish handling some calls.
Block Rules
Mimir Gate supports:
- Exact numbers, such as
18005551212. - Wildcard prefixes, such as
855*.
Wildcard rules are local to Mimir Gate. Android's system block list may not support wildcard rules.
Trusted Speed Dial and Shortcuts
Trusted Speed Dial lets you configure one important contact or number for quick access. You can make it available from an optional notification, a button on the Keypad, or an Android home-screen shortcut.
Contacts and Recents also support long-press shortcut actions. A shortcut can either open Mimir Gate with the number pre-filled or place the call immediately. Android or your launcher may still ask you to confirm adding the shortcut.
Reverting to Your Previous Phone App
- Open Android Settings.
- Search for "Default apps."
- Open "Phone app."
- Choose your previous phone app, such as Google Phone or Samsung Phone.
You can also uninstall Mimir Gate.
Permissions
Mimir Gate asks for permissions only for phone-app features:
- Contacts — show saved contacts and contact photos.
- Phone — place and manage calls.
- Answer Calls — support deliberate Drop behavior where Android requires it.
- Notifications — show incoming and missed call alerts.
- Full-Screen Intent — show incoming call UI when the phone is locked or another app is open.
Mimir Gate does not use internet, SMS, microphone, billing, advertising, or analytics permissions in the current version. Android call history access is optional and used only if you start the one-time import from Settings.
Call history import is not automatic. The app explains the import first, asks you to authenticate with your Android device lock, and then Android asks for call history permission.
Turning Privacy Mode off also requires Android device authentication. This helps prevent someone from casually disabling screenshot and app-preview protection while using your phone.
Local diagnostics are encrypted and redacted. They are intended for troubleshooting app behavior and do not send anything automatically.
Troubleshooting
Incoming calls do not appear
- Confirm Mimir Gate is the default phone app.
- Confirm notifications are allowed.
- Confirm full-screen incoming call access is allowed if Android asks.
- Restart the phone and test again.
Contacts are not showing
- Open Mimir Gate Settings > Permissions.
- Allow Contacts access.
- Confirm contacts exist in Android Contacts.
A blocked caller still reached voicemail
Carrier voicemail behavior can vary. Try changing the spam-list action between Silence, Send to voicemail, and Drop. Use Drop only when you intentionally want to cut off a caller quickly.
Drop is too startling
Mimir Gate attempts to quiet deliberate Drop handling. Device and carrier audio behavior may still vary, especially with Bluetooth, speaker, and headset routes.
